Roger Narboni

French lighting designer, Roger Narboni was born in Algiers (Algeria) in 1953 (September 22nd).

Narboni graduated from Orsay University near Paris with a Master’s degree in electronics in 1975 and stayed 4 years in The National Fine Arts School of Paris (1971 -1974).

After several years travelling abroad and 3 years spent in New York City, he returned to France in 1981 and prepared several exhibitions on the subject of light and lighting.

In 1988, He founded the CONCEPTO lighting design studio near Paris.

Since then, he realised numerous landscape, urban and architectural lightings of different types and scale (Sèvre River landscape in Niort, Brouage Citadel, Garonne river landscape in Toulouse, Reims Cathedral, Peugeot Citroën Design Centre near Paris, Petit Palais Museum and Clichy Batignolles Park in Paris, Dexia Tower in Luxemburg, heat plan in Torino, Italy, Chinese nightscapes on grand canal in Hangzhou and on Dujiangyan’s river).

He created in 1987 a new discipline called Light Urbanism and realized since then more than 120 lighting master plans in France and abroad (Bordeaux, Lille, Nantes, Paris, Rennes, Toulouse, Brussels, Namur, Athens and recently Casablanca in Morocco, Hangzhou, Dujiangyan, Chongqing, Chengdu in China, Muscat in Oman, Jerusalem in Israel, São Paolo in Brazil).

A joint founder of the French lighting designers’ association ACE, member of PLDA and recently founder Chairman of the lighting designers without boarders association, Roger Narboni has teach until 2009 at Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Nature et du Paysage in Blois and Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Paysage in Versailles, both in France.

He has made many lectures in France and abroad and wrote a large number of articles and is the author of 3 renown books “La lumière urbaine” (1995), “La lumière et le paysage” (2004) and “Lumière et ambiances” (2006), all printed by Le Moniteur, Paris (English edition “Lighting the Landscape” by Birkhaüser Publishers – Italian edition “Luce e paesaggio” by Tecniche Nuove Publishers), a science fiction novel « la nuit disparue » (Fondation Targetti Publishers, 2009) and recently an essay « Les éclairages des villes, vers un urbanisme nocturne » (Infolio Publishers, 2012).
